Services for Zena Pearl Isbell DeBerry of Hornsby were held at Hornsby Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at 11:00 A.M with Tim West and Kevin Isbell officiating. Burial was in Wyatt Cemetery with her grandsons, Jason DeBerry, Steven DeBerry, David Gibson, Eric Grantham, Stanley Sutton, Jr. and grandson-in-law Adam Williams serving as pall bearers. Honorary pall bearers were Raymond and Tommy Cox, Jim DeBerry, Willis Hornsby, Donnie Howell, Melvin Jones and John Worley. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar were in charge of arrangements.



Zena Pearl Isbell DeBerry departed this life on December 10, 2005 at the age of 98. She was born in McNairy County, TN near Woodville, March 26, 1907 to William Dotson Brint Isbell and Narcissus Caroline Partridge Isbell. She was preceded in death by her first husband Georgie Gyle Russom, a daughter Georgia Sue Russom, her second husband Thomas Paul (Tom) DeBerry, her son Paul William DeBerry and her grandson Paul William DeBerry, Jr.



She married Tom April 14, 1929 and they moved to Hornsby in 1937 where she was a member of Hornsby Baptist Church. She was a homemaker, kept books for her husband’s sawmill business and worked at Bolivar Frosted Foods from 1952 to 1969. She was an accomplished seamstress and sewed for her family and the surrounding area. Her favorite hobbies were piecing quilts and cooking for her family, neighbors and church functions.



She is survived by four children, one son Max Forrest DeBerry (Becky) of Detroit, MI, and three daughters Joyce Annette DeBerry Gibson (Bill, deceased) of Tunica, MS, Virginia Carolyn DeBerry Grantham (James Ray, deceased) of Toone, TN and Tommye Jean DeBerry Sutton (Stanley) of Commerce Township, MI. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 20 great great grandchildren, one sister Wilma Isbell Russom of Bethel Springs, TN and two sisters-in-law Thelma Isbell of Paducah, KY and Maxine Isbell of Bethel Springs, TN and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
