W. T. Webster, 82, of Middleton, departed this life Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at his home in Middleton.
He was born Monday, October 30, 1939, in Rogers Springs, son of the late Wood Tate Webster and Mary Christine Burnett Webster and lived most of his life here. He worked for IBM in Memphis from 1962-1966 and was co-owner of a used car dealership from 1966-1974. After that, he farmed and was the owner of Webster's Grocery in Saulsbury from 1975-2006, when he retired. He served in the US Navy from 1957-1962, and married Virgia Dowdy on May 2, 1958. While in the Navy, he served on the USS Ticonderoga air craft carrier. Mr. Webster was a member of New Bethany Church of Christ.
Services were 1 pm Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel in Middleton with Justin Antwine officiating. Burial was in Rogers Springs Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of almost 64 years, Virgia Junita Dowdy Webster of Middleton; a son, Kenny Webster (Barbie) of Madison, AL; a daughter, Mechelle Duke (John) of Middleton; a great aunt, Lucille Shelby of Grand Junction; three grandchildren, Ethan Thomas Lakey (Brandi), Arielle Grace Lakey and Cynthia Webster; and two great grandchildren, Ailis Dilylah Lakey and Dani Lakey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Webster; a sister, Joan Brown; and his grandparents, Homer Alvin Webster, Annie Loella Hammons Webster, Joseph H.
