Wilma Irene Hickerson

June 28, 1925 — November 4, 2008

Wilma Irene Griggs Hickerson was born June 28, 1925 in Waynesboro, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Lannie and Lizzie Kilburn Griggs. She was united in marriage to Wilie Floyd Hickerson on February 3, 1944. Mr. Hickerson preceded her in death on March 30, 1996.



Mrs. Hickerson was a retired CNA at National Health Care, was a member of the Calvary Baptist in Waynesboro, Tennessee, and served as a foster grandparent at Waynesboro Elementary School for several years.



Mrs. Hickerson departed this life on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at her home at the age of 83 Years, 4 Months, 7 Days.



In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Hickerson was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Riley; a son, Boyd Hickerson Sr.; a brother, Paul Griggs; two sisters, Eva James, Ruth Murphy.



She is survived by sons, Richard Hickerson of Waynesboro, TN, Kenneth Hickerson of Hixson, TN; daughters, Kathryn Hickerson of Clifton, TN, Linda Hickerson of St. Claire Shores, MI; fifteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert Griggs and Marcus Griggs both of MI, and David Griggs of GA; a sister, Frankie Petrides of MI; nieces and nephews.



Services will be Thursday, November 6, 2008 at 3 pm at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel in Waynesboro, TN with Jerry Robbins officiating. Burial will be in Forty-Eight Creek Church Cemetery near Waynesboro, TN with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County directing. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 5, 2008 from 6 pm to 9 pm and Thursday, November 6, 2008 from 8 am until service time with the family receiving friends from 1 pm to 3 pm at the funeral home.
