Willie L. 'Pete' Phillips

WILLIE L. (PETE) PHILLIPS

Bartlett, TN: Willie LeeVern ‘Pete’ Phillips age 93 passed away Thursday afternoon, September 29, 2016 at the Tennessee State Veterans Home at Humboldt.

Mr. Phillips was born in Alba, TX and reared in Mifflin community of Chester County, the son of the late Willie Nathan and Minnie Lee Wright Phillips. He attended Chester County schools and graduated Chester County High School in 1940. He attended Union University, West TN Business College and Memphis State. In 1942 he entered the Army Air Force and was a radio operator on B-17 and B-29 and returned to Henderson in 1946. He was married to Susie Erlene Davis of Henderson in 1945.

He went to work for Vaudie Plunk in the electric wiring business until 1949 and then began working with the U.S. Government in the Ordinance in Chattanooga in 1949. He was transferred in 1950 to Memphis Defense Depot where he worked until retirement in 1983. Mrs. Phillips died in 1969. He was married to Patty Hutchison of Memphis, she died in 1983. In 1987 he married Ouida Weathers Tribble of Memphis.

He was a member of the Johnson Crossroads Primitive Baptist Church where was a Deacon. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife, Ouida Weathers Phillips of Bartlett, a son, Daniel Phillips and wife Yvonne of Fulton, KY; a stepdaughter, Gloria Beucler of Portland, OR and a stepson, Randy Tribble of Nashville and a daughter-in-law, Penny Phillips of Memphis; ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Duwayne Phillips in 2003; a sister, Louise Cash and two brothers, J.E. Phillips and Roy Phillips.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Sunday at Johnson Crossroads Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Allen Broughton officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1:00 PM Sunday.

Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
