Mrs. Willie Mae "Bill" Morris Garrett, age 88 of Whiteville, departed this life Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Mrs. Garrett was born in Hardeman County June 3, 1923 to the late Charlie Hugh and Maggie Mae Clutts Morris. She married Finis J. Garret in December of 1939 and the two worked together as farmers in the Hillville area. Mrs. Garrett primarily worked as a homemaker but was also employed as a production worker for the Rose Lamont Glove Factory for a period of time. She and her family lived in Brownsville, where her children graduated high school. After her husband passed January 20, 1989, she moved to Whiteville where she was a member of the Friendship Group at Whiteville Senior Citizens Center and attended the Whiteville First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Garrett leaves as her survivors four daughters, Valerie Dowdy of Somerville, Mary Ann Jackson of Flatrock, MI, Judy Neal of Okeana, OH, and Maggie Geraldine Billings of Bolivar; a son, Charles Thomas Garrett of Bolivar; a sister, Dorothy Russell of Bolivar; fifteen grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Donald Finis Garrett; two sister, Jeanette Morris and Bernice Napoli; and a brother, Charles Coffman.
