William Arthur Warner, age 78 of Whiteville, passed from this life
Friday morning January 18, 2013.
Mr. Warner was born to Lynn and Anne Campbell Warner on August
10, 1934 and married Shirley Leathers October 23, 1953. He lived
in Whiteville all of his life where he was a deacon at Whiteville First
Baptist Church. During his younger years he was a fiddler at county
square dances and attended Bolivar Central High School, a
member of the class of 1953. A lifelong farmer and agri-
businessman, he received the 1973 "Farmer of the Year" award and
his farm was featured in the Commercial Appeal in 1985. He was
the owner of Whiteville Gin and Elevator Company and was a 32nd
Degree Mason.
In addition to his wife Shirley, Mr. Warner is survived by a daughter,
Anne Marie Griffin of Whiteville; 4 sons, Rev. Tommy Warner and
his wife Beverly of Covington, George Warner and his wife Beth of
Santa Clara, CA, Arthur Warner and his wife Maria of Huntsville, AL,
and Clyde Warner of Whiteville; 2 sisters Shelby Burch and her
husband Max of Savannah, and Faye Warner of Dyersburg; 7
grandchildren Jeremy Warner, James Griffin, Cynthia Pruitt, Wesley
Warner, Adam, Charlie, and Daniel Pierce; 3 great-grandchildren
Camie, Cadence and William Warner; and several nieces and
nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a
brother Dr. Lynn Warner, Jr. and a daughter Mary Grace Warner.
