William Robert (Rod) Thompson Sr. was born January 14, 1936 in Wayne County, Tennessee, the son of the late James Plummer and Annie Butler Thompson. He was united in marriage to Peggy Ann Prestage.
Mr. Thompson was a retired city manager for Collinwood, TN and served in the United States Army.
Mr. Thompson departed this life on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at E. C. M. Hospital in Florence, Alabama at the age of 73 Years, 4 Months, 20 Days.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Ann Prestage Thompson of Collinwood, TN; a son, William Robert Thompson Jr. of Collinwood, TN; a daughter, Renee Parker of Florence, AL; Grandchildren, Kristin, Taylor and Blake Thompson, Chris Martin, Michael and Dustin Parker; brothers, Joel Thompson and wife, Evelyn of Toledo, OH, Gene Thompson and wife, Gladys of Temperance, MI, Ralph Thompson and wife, Joy of Florence, AL; sister, Flo Thompson Brewer and husband, Joel of Florence, AL; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by a brother, Charles (Buster) Butler.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Collinwood, Tennessee, with Steven Pochop officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Gardens, Collinwood, TN with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County directing. Visitation will be Friday, June 5, 2009 from 5 pm to 9 pm and Saturday, June 6, 2009 from 9 am to service time at the funeral home.
