William Ferguson Smith

February 2, 1918 — September 1, 2006

William Ferguson Smith, 88, of Hornsby, died Friday afternoon, September 1, 2006 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.



Son of the late Grover Cleveland Smith and Lucy Myrtle Ferguson Smith, he was Baptist in belief and worked in construction and logging. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and lived in Hardeman County most of his life.



Graveside services were 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 4, 2006 at Walnut Grove Cemetery near Bolivar with Jerry Howell officiating.



Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Long of New Johnsville, TN, and Angela McGee of Missouri; two sons, Dennis Smith of Memphis and Anthony Smith of Millington; three sisters, Elsie Taylor of Adamsville, Ruth Jernigan and Helen Cooper, both of Hornsby; one brother, Joe Smith of Medon and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, April Davis and three brothers, Gene, James, and Thomas Smith.
