William O'Neal "Sonny" Vickers

Mr. William O'Neal "Sonny" Vickers, age 72 of Middleton, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 26, 2017 at Bolivar General Hospital.

A native of Middleton and life-long resident of Hardeman County, he was the son of the late Herman Berton Vickers and Katie Lou Russell Vickers, who survives. On December 26, 1962, he was united in marriage to the former Doris Nell Kirk. He was a self-employed sawmiller and member of Cypress United Pentecostal Church and in his leisure time, Sonny enjoyed fishing, hunting and volunteering at various nursing facilities in our area. He would spend many hours entertaining residents with his guitar-playing ability, something he enjoyed doing more than just about anything else. He also took time to help teach young people how to play.

In addition to his wife and mother, he leaves his daughter, Barbara Joyce Maloy (Tony) of Selmer; his son, Kenneth Wayne Vickers (Mendy) of Pulaski, TN; three grandchildren, Kristy Owens (Brian) of Thompson Station, TN; Rachel Maloy of Waveland, MS and Thomas Maloy of Selmer; and one great-grandchild, Vivian Owens of Thompson Station, TN.

Besides his father, Mr. Vickers was preceded by his sister, Linda Kirk.
