Mr. Hazelwood passed away Friday morning, December 21, 2012 at Methodist Healthcare in Somerville.
The widower of Martha Sue Hazelwood, who died on April 28, 1999, he was a retired heavy equipment operator/highway department worker with the Fayette County Public Works Department and the Hardeman County Highway Department. He was born November 30, 1921, in Fayette County, son of the late Smith and Mary Freels Hazelwood and lived in Hardeman County for 65 years. He served in the US Navy and received a Purple Heart. He loved to hunt and fish and was a member of the VFW and Whiteville First Baptist Church,.
Survivors include two daughters, Sara Hodge (Wayne) of Mocow and Wanda Anderson of Jackson; four sons, William Gary Hazelwood (Brenda) of Whiteville, Carl J. Hazelwood (Brenda) of Bolivar, James David Hazelwood (Allison) of Bolivar and Ronnie Joe Hazelwood (Pam) of Adamsville; two sisters, Iona Hatch of Bolivar and Virgie Prince of Jackson, Mich; two brothers, Frank Hazelwood and Earl Hazelwood, both of Bolivar; 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Joyce Ann Hazelwood and Margaret Deming; a brother, James Hazelwood and a half brother, Jessie Freels.
