William Fred “Billy†Haase, 85, of Bolivar, died Thursday, August 10, 2006 at Pine Meadows Healthcare and Rehabilitation.
The widower of Florence Ruth Hardee Williams Haase, who died March 27, 2006 after 50 years of marriage, he was a farmer. Mr. Haase was born May 11, 1921 in Whiteville, son of the late William Carl Friedrik Haase and Lena Fergie Haase and lived in Mercer for over 30 years before making his home in Bolivar four years ago. He served in the U. S. Army in the Pacific Campaign during WWII and was highly decorated for his service. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Jackson and was Lutheran in belief.
Services were 1 p.m. Saturday, August 12, 2006, at Shackelford Funeral Directors Bolivar chapel with David Cooper officiating. Burial was in Melrose Cemetery near Whiteville.
Survivors include two step-daughters, Jimmie Ruth Morris and Bobbie Cummings, both of Bolivar; one step-son, Billy M. Williams of Jackson; five sisters, Augustine Pitman, Otillian Garrett Robbins and Mildred Bryant, all of Whiteville; Gladys Cook of Somerville and Bernice Lester of West Allis, Wisconsin; one brother, Richard Haase of Mercer; seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one great grandaughter; four sisters, Irene Rose, Bertha Bishop, Leanora Rose and Lillie Cook and two brothers, Herbert and Raymond Haase.
