William Wallace Flint

March 31, 1935 — July 20, 2022

Dr. William Wallace Flint Jr. passed away on Tuesday evening, July 19, 2022. He had been living with Multiple Myeloma cancer for 10 years.

Wally, as he was known, was born to Emma and Wallace Flint Sr. on March 31, 1935. He was raised in the Atlanta suburb of Hapeville. He put himself through college, graduating with a Doctorate in Special Education at University of Illinois.

He married Vivian Willingham at the age of 20. They had 3 children - Wallace III, Anna and Benjamin.

Wally worked as a Delta mechanic, Secret Service Agent, Juvenile probation officer and college professor of Developmental Psychology. He was the Principal of the Bodine Academy. His crowning achievement was starting his own school, the Concord Academy, for kids with learning challenges in Memphis.

After retiring, he and Vivian worked for Habitat for Humanity, building houses for the indigent. He also drove extensively for meals on wheels and attended the First Methodist Church of Selmer.

He retired from Morehead State in the early 90s and moved to Savannah, TN. After a single year, he relocated to the Selmer area. He loved living on his remote property on Pleasant Site road. First raising cattle, then horses, then donkeys - he finally settled on trees.

After Vivian died, he remarried Betty A. Graham in 2018 at the church.

He is survived by his two sons Wallace and Benjamin; his second wife Betty A Flint; two grandchildren Reid Terry and Natalie Mathews; and great granddaughter Vivi Mathews.
