Mr. Smith died Tues., Sept. 18 at Pine Meadows Healthcare Center. The husband of Inell Smith, who survives, he was a carpenter and lived all of his life here. He was born in Hardeman County, son of the late Jess and Eula Bell Tippett Smith and served in the US Navy during WW II in the Pacific & European Theatre and at Iwo Jima. He loved fishing and hunting and was a member of New Union Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, whom he married on July 3, 1935, survivors include a daughter and her husband, Maxine S. and Al Cristy of Dayton, Ohio; a son and his wife, Luther and Barbara Smith of Bolivar; seven grandchildren, Gary & Carole Smith, Cindy & Richard Hazelwood, Tim & Angie Smith, Caroline & Donald Vandiver, Todd Smith, David & Maria Pelsor and Mike & Jennifer Pelsor; 14 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren and a halfbrother, Elvin Willoughby. He was preceded in death by a brother, Leo Smith; two half brothers, Curtis & Frank Willoughby; and two half sisters, Omega Nuckolls and Earline Velines.
