Walter (WJ) Shaw

Walter Junior (W.J.) Shaw of Waynesboro, TN was born November 10, 1919 in Waynesboro, TN, the son of the late William Walter and Eliza Elizabeth Devers Shaw. He was united in marriage to Mary Nell Phillips on December 5, 1942 and she preceded him in death on October 30, 1981. He married Dorothy Berry Lee on February 14, 1988.

Mr. Shaw was an retired electrician with TVA, was a member of IBEW Electrical Workers Union for over 61 years, was a member of American Legion Post 130 where he had served as past commander. He was a Waynesboro city commissioner from 1972 to 1980 serving as vice-mayor from 1977 to 1980 and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Mr. Shaw received a Purple Heart for his service in the United States Army during World War II.

Mr. Shaw departed this life on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Wayne County Nursing Home in Waynesboro, Tennessee at the age of 93 Years, 11 Months, 3 Days.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Shaw of Waynesboro, TN; son, Ronnie Shaw of Nashville, TN; daughter, Janelle Bevis of Waynesboro, TN: grandchildren, Derrick Bevis and wife, Julia, Chris Bevis and wife, Madora, Anna Brooke Bevis and friend, Ryan Lee, Ken Shaw and wife, Sandra, Stevie Shaw and wife, Courtney, Rhonda Shaw Haynes and husband, Rusty, and Cindy Shaw and friend, Tim Holcomb; great-grandchildren, Drew, Blaine, Martha Kristin, JanaKay, Jaylen, and Jacob Bevis, Hamp, Hillary, and Zac Shaw, Dalton and Lucy Haynes; stepson, Jimmy Lee and wife, Becky of Lavergne, TN; stepdaughter, Diana Lay and husband, Johnny of Collinwood, TN; step-grandchildren, Ronnie McWilliams and wife, Nic, Charity Godfrey and husband, Shane, James Lee and wife, Ashley, Tara Rollins and husband, Chad, and Jonathan Lay; step-great-grandchildren, Wesley McWilliams, Emily and Hannah Rollins, and Anderson Lee; his sister, Hazel Cole and husband, Billy of Waynesboro, TN; special nephew, Tim Cole and his wife, Jennifer and their children, Brady, Peyton, and Grayson; and other nieces and nephews.

Services will be Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel, Waynesboro, Tennessee, with Bobby Pinckley and T. R. Williams officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, directing. Pallbearers will be Derrick and Chris Bevis, Ken and Steve Shaw, Ronnie McWilliams, James Lee, Tim Cole, and Rusty Haynes. Honorary pallbearers will be Drew, Blaine, Jaylen, and Jacob Bevis, Dalton Haynes, Hamp and Zac Shaw, Ryan Lee, Tim Holcomb, Jonathan Lay, Tyler Godfrey, and Wesley McWilliams.

Visitation will be Monday, October 14, 2013 from 6 pm to 9 pm and Tuesday, October 15, 2013 from 8 am until service time at the funeral home.
