Walter Franklin Goodman, Jr., 68, of Bolivar, died Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at Bolivar General Hospital.
The husband of Peggy Joyce Cossar Goodman, who survives, most of his career was as a police officer in Bolivar while also working in law enforcement in Grand Junction, Whiteville and Middleton and at the county landfill center for the past two years. Mr. Goodman was born May 6, 1938 in Whiteville, son of the late Walter Franklin Goodman and Myrtis Harvey Goodman and lived here all of his life. He loved to hunt and watch his grandsons’ ball games and enjoyed gardening. He was a member of the Tennessee National Guard and was a deacon at Parran’s Chapel Baptist Church. His family stated that he was a “real fighterâ€, battling cancer for 10 years and that he loved life.
In addition to his wife, whom he married November 7, 1959, survivors include one son, David Goodman of Bolivar; one sister, Dale Cannon of Moscow; two grandsons, Brandon and Connor and one great grandchild, Addison. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Lee Goodman, who died May 25, 1981, and three brothers, William, James Otis and Jerry Goodman.
