Walter E. Bennett
Walter Elliott Bennett, age 88, passed away Saturday evening November 21, 2020 at his home in the Hickory Corner Community.
Mr. Bennett was born March 1, 1932 in New Brunswick, NJ and grew up in Delanco, NJ, the son of the late Walter Henry and Maryalma Mount Bennett. He graduated from Palmyra High School in 1950. He entered the U. S. Navy serving from 1952 till 1956, during the Korean War Era. He married Annie Porter in 1953. They made their home most of their married life in Delanco, NJ where he worked thirty years for New Jersey Bell telephone, retiring in 1986 when they moved to the Hickory Corner Community. He is a member of First Baptist Church Bethel Springs, the Telephone Pioneers and the Hickory Corner Community Center.
He is survived by his wife Annie M. Porter Bennett of Hickory Corner, a son W. Barry Bennett of Columbia, MO a daughter-in-law Jennifer Bennett of Finger, a sister Bonnie Smith of Florida, five grandchildren; James E. Jr., Jessica, Andrew, Elliott, and Stephanie, and six great grandchildren; Aliyah, Triston, Cameron, Adalyn, Jaxon and Harper.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son James E. Bennett, February 19, 2016.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel with Bro. James Towery. Burial to follow at Chester County Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday.
