W. O. "Orlan" Watson was born July 2, 1913 in McNairy County, Tennessee the son of the late Marion McDaniel and Nancy Jane Abercrombie Watson.
He was united in marriage to Athalee Emmons on April 11, 1931. Mrs. Watson preceded him in death on June 6, 1993 after 62 years of marriage.
Mr. Watson was a carpenter by trade. He also worked for the McNairy County School System for ten years, serving as school plant manager, and was elected McNairy County Road Commissioner, serving in that office from 1964 until 1970. He was a member of the Union Grove Methodist Church, and was the oldest active member at the time of his death. He loved his family and friends, and he enjoyed living life to the fullest each day.
Mr. Watson departed this life on April 5, 2008 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 94 Years, 9 Months, 3 Days. He is survived by a daughter, Betty Lindeman of Corinth, MS; five grandchildren: Lisa Moore and husband Terry of Selmer, TN, Greg Carter and wife Christina of Dayton, OH, Rita Plunkett and husband Eddie of Selmer, TN, Letecia Cole and husband Randy of Booneville, MS and David Myers of Senatobia, MS; seven great grandchildren:Christopher and Ahsley Moore, both of Selmer, TN, Shane Tomlinson and wife Tabitha of Nashville, TN, Renee Perrott and husband Josh of Orlando, FL, Christopher Grady of Seattle, WA, Heather Sanders of Selmer, TN and Hannah Cole of Booneville, MS; three great great grandchildren: Dylan and Dakota Tomlinson, both of Nashville, TN and Liam Perrott of Orlando, FL; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Watson was also preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Bennett; five sisters, Birdie Blackshire, Abby Ellsworth, Louella Henry, Doll Wolfe and Emma McClain; and four brothers, Frank Watson, Luther Watson, Dalton Watson and Miriam Watson.
