Dr. W. E. Lawrence, 87, of Memphis, formerly of Bolivar, died Friday, March 9, 2007 at the VA Medical Center in Memphis.
He was born June 10, 1919 in Tompkinsville, KY, son of the late Hebron and Mable Lawrence. Moving to Bolivar in 1947, he was a physician of local practice for 25 years and county physician. Dr. Lawrence lived in Memphis since the early 1970’s. He was a member of the Bolivar Rotary Club in the 1960’s, a private pilot, enjoyed bridge playing, dancing and “big band†music. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII serving stateside as a doctor.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, William E. Lawrence, II and Ruth Anne of Wynne, AR; John Russell Lawrence and Lisa of Memphis; five grandchildren, Russell Emerson Lawrence, Kelsey Renee’ Lawrence, Olivia Ann Lawrence, Melissa Jo Johnson and Brandon Joseph Henson and two great-grandchildren Kayla Anne and Keely Jo Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Erma Potter and two brothers, Bemis and Marshall Lawrence.
