Virginia Smith

February 8, 1926 — June 28, 2010

Mrs. Smith passed away Monday night at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.



The widow of Homer Smith, who died February 18, 1995 after 48 years of marriage, she retired as a vocational rehabilitation therapist working at Western Mental Health Institute for 28 years. Mrs. Smith was born in Hornsby to the late Henry and Iva Virginia Jernigan Hodge and lived most of her life in Hardeman County and 13 1/2 years in Arkansas. She was active in the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Bolivar First Baptist Church, where she was involved in the Keen Agers Choir.



She is survived by a daughter, Brenda S. Lambert of Bolivar; a son, Robert E. "Bob" Smith of Cincinnati, OH; four sisters, Mexie Shearin of Denver, CO, Ivene Thomason of Fort Worth, TX, Audrey Hodge of Denver, CO, Christine Dunlap of Dickson; a brother, James W. Hodge of Oakland; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Euell H. Hodge and Lowell Hodge.
