Virginia Shelton Black, 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at St. Frances Hospital.
She was born to Frank and Esther Coffman Shelton of Adamsville, Tennessee. On March 22, 1943, she married Wilbert A. Black, who survives, a Colonel in the US Air Force and traveled with him during his military career of 32 years. They lived in several states including Washington, D. C. They traveled extensively. While living in Europe, she visited Berlin during the Berlin Airlift; traveling through the Russian Zone by automobile. While living in England, she and her husband were invited to an event attended by the Queen Mother and were in conversation with her.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, her daughter, Dale Parrish of Jackson, Tennessee and her son, Dan Black of Austin, Texas. She was a member of the Germantown United Methodist Church, Gilbert Sunday School Class, the P.E.O. Organization and Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed teaching and being a pianist for children's Sunday School. She was a Scout Den Mother and enjoyed many other functions and women's club activities.
