Vinson V. Kelley

March 26, 1920 — November 9, 2008

On Sunday morning, November 9, 2008 Vinson V. Kelley departed this world leaving behind a loving caring wife of 60 years, Opal Kelley; 13 year old cat "Tiger" and "LittleMan" Kowie. A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late Sammie Lewis and Isable Montgomery Kelley. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Kelley, brothers, Ureal and Howard Kelley, and sister, Garrnet Martin. A retired iron worker, he was a member of Iron Workers Local, American Legion Post 11, of the Baptist faith, and a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.Survivors other than his wife are son, Paul Kelley, daughter; Joyce Alstadt (Ray); step-son, Donnie Cobb; grandson, Michael Richardson (Lea); granddaughters, Brittany Underwood (Andy), Candy Kelley, and Alex Kelley; 2 great grandsons, Seth and special little Cade; special nephew, Gary Kelley, nieces and nephews.Services will be 3:00 pm Tuesday, November 11 at Shackelford Funeral Chapel in Collinwood with Bobby Rich and James Paul Nobles Officiating. Interment following in Railroad Cemetery with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00 am until service time at Shackelford Funeral Home, Collinwood.Pallbearers are David Pusser, Guilford Wright, Ray Steele, Dan Kenner, Mac Grisby and Robert Dixon; honorary, Gary Kelley.
