Vida Winslow, a cherished matriarch, passed away on December 7, 2024, of Pocahontas, Tennessee, leaving behind a legacy embraced by love, tradition, and an indomitable spirit. Born on August 13, 1936, in the enchanting lands of Barbados, West Indies, Vida's journey through life was marked by resilience and a dedication to family that remained steadfast throughout her years.
A proud owner of the Friendly Laundromat in Brooklyn, New York, Vida was synonymous with hard work and community service. Her entrepreneurial spirit was matched only by her compassionate nature, as she touched the lives of many who graced her establishment with warmth and kindness.
In 2024, just before the Thanksgiving festivities, Vida made the significant move to Tennessee, where she continued to weave her intricate tapestry of love and care among her relatives. For a period of six years prior, she called Maryland home, where her vibrant personality thrived. A devoted member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, her faith served as a cornerstone, guiding her through life’s many chapters.
An aficionado of sewing and cooking, Vida created countless cherished memories around the family table, especially relishing moments spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her laughter and joy resonated as she crafted not only delightful meals but also a nurturing environment where family bonds flourished.
Though Vida's departure leaves an irreplaceable void, her spirit will live on in the hearts of her beloved family. She is survived by her daughters, Juliette Rose of Pocahontas and Clara Rios of Maryland; her sons, Emmerson Herbert of Barbados, Victor Herbert of Dover, Delaware, and Ricardo Herbert of St. Louis, Missouri; and her brothers, Morrison Herbert of Brooklyn, New York, and Geoffrey Herbert of Barbados; her sisters Veltina, Violeta, & Joycely. The vibrant legacy of Vida is further enriched by her 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, all of whom have been profoundly shaped by her unwavering love and nurturing presence.
She has been lovingly reunited with her husband Andrew Winslow, late parents, Livington Crichlow and Leotta Miriam Herbert Crichlow, alongside five siblings and a great-granddaughter, weaving together a celestial family tapestry that now embraces her in eternal peace.
Her life will be celebrated with a visitation on January 27, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, all taking place at Shackelford Funeral Directors located at 201 South Main Street, Middleton, TN 38052.
