Vernell Johnson

Vernell White Johnson was born on August 17,1940 in Lexington, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Robert and Tenesy Pearl Moody White. 

She was united in marriage to Allen Parker Johnson, who preceded his wife in death on November 9, 1971.

Vernell worked at H.I.S. Sportswear as a shirt presser. She later helped her son in his businesses; Doug's Cafe, B Mart, and DJ's Barbecue. Vernell grew up in Lexington, Tennessee prior to moving to Saltillo where she raised her children. Vernell loved going dancing, walking, being outside, gardening, and tending to her flower bed. She was a member of Lexington Church of Christ.

Vernell White Johnson departed this life on August 6, 2023 in Jackson, Tennessee at the age 82 years, 11 months, and 20 days.

She is survived by her son, Douglas P. Johnson; daughter, Linda Johnson Tomaszewski and husband Larry; sister, Willie White; grandchildren, Jeremiah Allen Coggins and Codye Johnson Tomaszewski; great grandchildren, Jacob Marsh, Cason Coggins, Brennan Coggins, Anslyn Tomaszewski, and Jedidiah Tomaszewski; and step granddaughter, Cherri Brooke Tomaszewski.

In addition to her parents and husband, Vernell was preceded in death by her son, Stanley Allen Johnson; sisters, Geneva Wallace and Nettie Wynnes; and brother, Robert White, Jr. 

Services will be held on August 9, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah in Savannah, Tennessee, with P.J Hardy officiating. Burial will follow in the Liberty Cemetery of Scotts Hill at Scotts Hill, Tennessee.
