Velma Oweda Tucker departed this life on Sunday, October 16, 2016, at the age of 82 years, 8 months, and 16 days. She was born in Booneville, Mississippi on January 31, 1934 the daughter of the late Howard William and Velma Earnest Jumper. On September 7, 1952, she was united in marriage to William Robert Tucker, who preceded her in death on April 27, 1988.
Velma had lived in Hardin County, Tennessee for most of her life and was a member of the St. Mark Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher. She graduated college and was a headstart teacher at Chickasaw Area Development. She enjoyed working with kids, working in the community, and taking care of the neighborhood kids as well.
She is survived by her son, William Rodney Tucker and wife, Patricia of Savannah, Tennessee; grandson, William Roderick Tucker; and sister, Geneva A. Cherry of Atlanta, Georgia.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa Tucker.
