Velma Lucille Lard Jeter



was born in Waterloo, Alabama on April 12, 1923 the daughter of the late Charlie Oscar and Lucy Lard.



On June 27, 1942 she married Vernon James Jeter who preceded her in death on June 5, 2002.



During her life she worked as a bookkeeper/secretary for Blackwood Brothers Music Company, Memphis, Tennessee and various other businesses. Velma's husband was a Navy Career Officer. They resided in various cities on the Atlantic Coast, as well as Central America, Africa, and the South Pacific. Upon retirement they returned home to West Tennessee and have lived in Clifton for the past 38 years. She was a member of the Clifton Church of Christ. She was active with the Tennessee Women's Amateur Golf Activities, Green River Country Club of Waynesboro, Tennessee, member of the Clifton Bridge Club, and and an Honorary Member of the U.S. Navy Retired Officers Association. Her hobbies included playing golf, playing bridge, gardening flowers and roses.



Mrs. Jeter departed this life on Sunday, November 25, 2007 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center at the age of 84 years, 7 months, 13 days.



Mrs. Jeter is survived by a daughter: Brenda Lucille Jeter-Bliss and husband Dan of Omaha, Nebraska; 2 sons: Daniel Charles Jeter and fiancee Marsha Weatherly of Savannah, Tennesse, Joseph Carroll Jeter of Huntsville, Alabama; 3 grandchildren: Bryan Scott Jeter, Danielle Charlene Jeter, and Joseph Gabriel Jeter; 2 great-grandchildren: James Alexander Jeter and Kalie Rose Jeter.



In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by 5 brothers: Grady Lard, Archie Lard, Vernon Lard, Ellie Lard, Clifford Lard; 6 sisters: Effie Lard, Mary Couch, Lula Mae Pickens, Vergie Lee Taylor, Martha Green, Pearl Condrey.
