Velma Vernell Barnes

Mrs. Barnes passed away early Saturday morning, September 15, 2007, at her home.



A native of Hornsby, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Annie Baker Crawford. She lived in Memphis from 1955 - 1975 before returning to Hornsby. She was the widow of Verlon Herriman, who died in December of 1944 and John C. Barnes, who passed July 14, 1989. While in Memphis, she was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church and joined Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in McNairy County when she moved back. A homemaker all of her life, she was a graduate of the class of 1939 of Bolivar Central High School.



She leaves a daughter, Verlinda Lineberry of Hornsby; two sons, John C. and Jack H.Barnes, Sr., both of Hornsby; two sisters, Elizabeth Cox and Mary Dean Chandler, both of Hornsby; two brothers, Kenneth Crawford of Hornsby and Deryal Crawford of Bolivar; three grandchildren, Brian Lineberry, Jack H. Barnes, Jr. and his wife, Kristie, and Shane Barnes; a step-grandchild, Mark Thomas; two step-great-grandchildren, Ryan and Brooke Thomas.



She was preceded in death by a grandson, Keith Lineberry; a sister, Frances Mayfield; and four brothers, Robert Wood, A. B., Clifford and Elmo Crawford.
