Luray, TN: Vann David Harris age 83 passed away Thursday , December 06, 2012.
Mr. Harris was born and reared in Chester County, the son of the late Hugh W. and Eula Nell Batchlor Harris. He attended Chester County schools and married Katherine Vestal in 1946. They made their home in the Luray area all of their married life, where they farmed. Mrs. Harris died in 2008. Mr. Harris served as a director for the Federal Land Bank for 17 years. He also served as a charter member of the Henderson Elks Lodge and a member of the Chester County Farm Bureau. He had served on the Democratic Executive Committee, the State Election Commission and the Chester County Election Commission. He enjoyed flying, owning and piloting his own plane. He was a member of the Beech Bluff Methodist Church.
He is survived by a son, Hugh David Harris of Luray; two daughters, Susanne Harris of Clifton, TN and Camille Harris of Newark, Delaware, seven grandchildren; Tracy, Ryan, Kasey, Kristen and Kyle Harris, Kevin Daws and Damon Mosier, eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son; Marion Ray Harris, a sister; Janice Glisson and two grandchildren; Robyn Perry and Tammy Harris James.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday at the Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Hoyt Wilson officiating and burial to follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Mifflin.
The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel from 5 pm to 9 pm on Friday.
