Ulan Adkins
was born in Wayne County, West Virginia on November 24, 1924. He was the son of the late Allen and Jane Fields Adkins.
On June 6, 1952 he was united in marriage to Emogene Roberts, who survives.
Mr. Adkins served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman First Class during World War II. He earned the honor of Planksman because he was on the USS England when it was commissioned and decommissioned. Mr. Adkins lived in South Williamson, West Virginia for 29 years; Torrance, California for 13 years; and has resided in Hardin County, Tennessee since 1967. He worked for Cal-Metal in Torrance, California; Supulpa Steel in Tulsa, Oklahoma for 3 years; transferring to LTV Steel in Counce, Tennessee when the steel mill moved. Mr. Adkins was a member of the Savannah Church of God and the Forsters.
Mr. Adkins departed this life on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at the age 83 years, 9 months, 10 days.
In addition to his wife, Emogene, Mr. Adkins is survived by 2 sons: Floyd Adkins and wife Mary Beth of Savannah, Tennessee and Brian Adkins and wife Pam of Birmingham, Alabama; 5 grandchildren: Brandy Adkins Pierce and husband Chris, Allen Adkins and wife Christy, Jocey Adkins, Breanna Adkins DuBose and husband Paul, and Canaan Adkins; 5 great-grandchildren: Alli Madison Pierce, Emma Katherine Pierce, Molly Margaret Pierce, Karson Elizabeth Adkins, and Kameron Aleese Adkins; 4 sisters-in-law: Irene Adkins of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, Nancy Jane Adkins of Turkey Creek, Kentucky, Yvonne Adkins of Ashland, Kentucky, and Patty Adkins of Morristown, Tennessee; 2 special nieces: Christy Harrison and Pam Wilkes; and several other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Adkins was preceded in death by a son: Charles Ulan Adkins; a sister: Nola Thomas; 5 brothers: Avery Adkins, Curtis Adkins, Ancil Adkins, Jess Adkins, and Zion Adkins.
