Mrs. Godwin passed away in her home, Monday morning, November 28.
The daughter of the late Tommy Tate Robbins and Amelia Augusta Ferge Robbins, she was born in Whiteville and had lived in Colorado, Louisiana and Arkansas during her lifetime. However, she had lived 90% of her life in the Williston and Fayette Corner areas. She married Mr. Lamar Peterson on September 9, 1939 and they were married almost 47 years before his death on September 5, 1986. On March 14, 1998, she married Mr. Vernon Claude Godwin, who survives her. Mrs. Godwin was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church at Laconia since 1943. She served the church as a Sunday School teacher for over 30 years. A homemaker, she enjoyed raising hogs and quilting.
In addition to her husband, she leaves 3 sons, Donald Lamar Peterson of Fayette Corner; Larry Oniel Peterson and his wife, Mary, of Whiteville; and Jerry Glyn Peterson and his wife, Christa, of Williston; one sister, Mattie Sue Conner of Fayette Corner; and one brother, Thomas Oscar Robbins of Vildo; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Additionally, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Alberta Davis and Pauline Wright.
