Mr. Rainey passed away Monday at Pine Meadows Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
The husband of Nellie O. Rainey, who survives, he worked at Western Mental Health Institute and was superintendent of streets for the City of Bolivar. He was born to James Wesley Rainey and Nancy Fish Rainey, both of whom preceded him in death and lived all of his life here. He served in the US Army in the 275th artillery batallion during World War II and was a member of Bolivar First Baptist Church and the VFW.
In addition to his wife, whom he married on March 12, 1944, survivors include a son, Thomas W. Rainey, Jr. of Collierville; a daughter, Peggy Nell Adelman of Bolivar; four grandchildren, Mikey McMahan, Alicia Pace, Tom Rainey and Todd Rainey; and nine great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lilllie Alma Hammons, a brother, J. W. Rainey and a half sister, Ruby Fortune.
