Stephen (Jeremiah) Lawrence Briggs of Selmer, TN went to sleep in the service of the Lord Jesus on October 7, 2016. Born in Columbus, OH, November 21, 1955, he was 60 years old.
A lot of things could be said about Stephen Briggs. He was a husband, father, and grandfather. He gave himself to teaching special needs children when he was already in his 50's, working in the Jackson-Madison County School District at Northside High School. He served his nation in the Coast Guard. He was a professional artist. He was the senior black belt in Ogasawara-Ha Shorinjiryu Karate-Do at the International Dojo, 149 W. Court Ave., Selmer.
He leaves behind a crowd that would call him the best teacher they ever had. He leaves behind his wife, Dossie, seven children: Jason, Cassie, Maranatha, Hannah, Joshua, Yiri and Katie, ten grandchildren: Asher, Elijah, Malakai, Konnor, Jordan, Noah, Ezra Ray, Jenna, Bella, and Willow; his mother, Eileen Pearl Lambert Briggs, as well as, hundreds of church family members who love him dearly and cannot but smile when they remember him. His antics, jokes, and unusual character made him unique and a source of many fond, heartfelt, and humorous memories. He died bearing the scars of a difficult life and the serenity of an overcomer.
One voice stands above all the others, though. It is the voice of Jesus saying, "It is required of a steward that he be found faithful." We who knew him testify that Stephen Lawrence Briggs left a legacy of faithfulness to his Master. May we all follow in his footsteps.
Mr. Briggs was preceded in death by a son, Ezra Noah Briggs; and his father, Ralph Briggs.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 at Rose Creek Village 999 Lola Whitten Rd., Selmer, TN.
