Stella Louise Glass Mason

Stella Louise Glass Mason, age 86, formerly of Collinwood, TN, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. She was born on June 17, 1938, in Athens, AL, to the late Ernest C. and Rebecca Perry Glass, and she grew up in southern Wayne County. She was married 55 years to Dillard Mason, who preceded her in death in 2021. Most recently she was a resident of the Harmony Hill assisted living community in Huntingdon, TN.

Stella graduated from Collinwood High School in 1955 and later received her education degree from Florence State Teachers College (now the University of North Alabama). A dedicated teacher for 38 years, she shared her passion for English grammar, art, and other subjects with generations of students at Collinwood Middle School and Collinwood High School until her retirement in 2001. She inspired countless young minds to reach their fullest potential.

Outside the classroom, she enjoyed caring for her many cats, nurturing her numerous flowers, sewing dresses and dolls, painting signs, and playing games such as Rook, bingo, and dominos. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Collinwood and a strong supporter of her children’s activities such as ballet, theater, band, and athletics. She loved to travel and host her family members for holidays.

Stella is survived by her son Eric F. Mason (Jackie) of Algonquin, IL; daughter Vadessa Flack (Steven) of Jackson, TN; and stepson Steven Mason (Carole) of Sparta, WI; two sisters, Erlene Wilson of Columbia, TN, and Edna Jones of Florence, AL; three grandchildren, Lauren Ashley Muoh (Obi), Anna Mason, and Parker Flack; two step-grandchildren, Natasha Mason and Alex Mason; great-grandchild Leo; and step great-grandchild Ebba. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 11, 2025, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, and on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from noon until 1:00 pm, at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Collinwood, TN.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Collinwood, TN, with John Dial officiating. Burial will follow in the Railroad Cemetery in Iron City, TN.
