Shirlene King

Shirlene King passed away on July 14, 2023, in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 88 years and 5 months. She was born on February 14, 1935, in McNairy County, TN to the late Roy Melton and Vestie Irene Locke Goolsby.

On December 24, 1954, Shirlene married the love of her life, Preston E. King. Together they built a beautiful life filled with love and happiness until Mr. King's passing on March 27, 2008.

She dedicated herself to her role as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Throughout the years, she cherished spending time with and remaining close to her family. She was not only known for her unwavering love but also for her exceptional cooking skills. Her famous peach cobbler, chicken & dressing, biscuits, and chocolate gravy delighted countless family gatherings.

In addition to being a talented cook and homemaker, Shirlene had many other interests. She enjoyed sewing and visiting the mountains. Above all else, she found solace in reading the Bible.  As a testament to her deep faith and devotion to worship, Shirlene was a founding member of Full Gospel Fellowship Church in Bethel Springs, TN.

She leaves behind a legacy of love that will forever be remembered by those who survive her: two daughters - Sharon Hart and husband Larry of Selmer, TN, Shelia Henry and husband Joey of Corinth, MS; daughter-in-law, Anita King Hively and husband Jason of Selmer, TN; five  grandchildren - Lani Coats and husband Josh, Kayla Foley and husband Jason, Heather Strangfeld and husband Allen, Hailey Gee and husband Tyler, Wes King and wife Christina; as well as nine great-grandchildren - Lilli and Jax Coats, Blaize and Wilder Foley, Trenton Sharp, Lyla, Everleigh, and Ava Gee, Kamden King.

Mrs. King is also survived by her two brothers, Robert Goolsby and wife Linda of Selmer, TN and Wayne Goolsby of Pocahontas, TN; two sisters - Darlene Cagle of Selmer, TN and Glenda Cox and husband Gary of Bolivar, TN; and a host of extended family and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. King was sadly preceded in death by her son, Larron King and granddaughter Lauren Elizabeth King.
