SHAWN O’DELL
Selmer, TN: Shawn Patrick O’Dell, age 46 died Saturday morning, June 25, 2022 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
He was born on October 30, 1975 in Ware, MA, son of Maurice Robert “Skip” O’Dell, Jr. and the late Linda Mae (Brodeur) O’Dell. He grew up in Palmer, MA where he played youth football and baseball. He was a 1993 graduate of Palmer High School, where he was well-known for his dedication and athleticism in football, baseball and basketball. He also umpired and coached girl’s youth softball teams. In 1997, he graduated from Westfield State University in Westfield, MA where he earned a B.S. degree in Criminology and played Freshman College football.
He worked for the State of Connecticut-Department of Corrections as a correctional officer at the maximum-security Northern Correctional Facility in Enfield, CT for several years before moving and settling in TN in 2009. He was currently employed by Sonoco Products Company in Jackson.
He married Darlene Seratt on April 21, 2019 and they made their home in Selmer, TN.
He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots Fan who enjoyed collecting baseball cards and Star Wars memorabilia. He also liked to golf and spent many years attending the former GHO golf tournaments with his father. He was responsible for starting the family birthday tradition of “cake in face” and will be lovingly remembered for his quick wit and hilarious sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife Darlene Seratt of Selmer; a son Brendan O’Dell of Ludlow, MA; a daughter Meghan O’Dell of Wilbraham, MA; two stepdaughters Ashley Jones Hill (B.J.) of Jackson, TN, Shelby Jones of Finger, TN; three grandchildren Gavin Hill, Audriana Hill and Alayla Pickens; his father Maurice “Skip” O’Dell of Enville, TN; his grandmother Emma Brodeur of Enville, TN: four brothers, Christopher Freeman-O’Dell of Springfield, MA, Luis Santos-O’Dell of Kona, HI; Frederick W. Peck and Scott O’Dell both of Enville; four sisters, Heather (O’Dell) Axelrad and her husband, Adam, of Hartford, CT, Courtney (O’Dell) Suchocki and her husband, Stephen of Clarksville, TN, Nicole McCaulliffe-O’Dell of Birmingham, AL, and Ashley O’Dell of Enville, TN.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Henderson’s Crook Avenue Chapel. Burial will be in Cave Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM service time Tuesday.
