Sarah Margaret Owens
was born in Savannah, Tennessee on June 26, 1930 the daughter of the late Horace Edward and Margaret Ann Godwin Bain.
On June 21, 1953 she was united in marriage to James L. Owens, who preceded his wife in death on October 30, 2004.
For a moment of her early youth, Sarah Margaret worked at Brown Shoe Company. However, she found her true calling as a homemaker. She loved her family, and took great pleasure in gardening, cooking, sewing, and reading "Remedy" magazine. Her soft, delicate hands not only made clothes, but also thread love into quilts. Sarah Margaret preferred to make her own clothes rather than buy them "off the rack." From candy-red strawberries and kale to lamb's ear and aloe, Sarah Margaret blessed her home with her knowledge and appreciate of nature. Her voice was soft and lenient, for she gave firm reprimand with her eyes. The tender-loving care and gentle energy she devoted to her family and home will forever be remembered by the smell of homemade rolls and loaves of bread welcoming in venturous grandchildren, the divine taste of homemade food offering eternal motherly love to her cherished sons, and a mason jar of sweet tea with fresh lemon for her beloved husband with whom she will finally be reunited.
Sarah Margaret departed this life on Friday, June 18, 2021 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 90 years, 11 months and 23 days.
She is survived by her children, Joel K. Owens of Savannah, Tennessee and Jerry W. Owens of Nashville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Sarah Hardaway of Murray, Kentucky, Mary Owens of Jacksonville, Florida, Cindy Nelson of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Kellie Owens of Cadiz, Kentucky, and William Owens of Nashville, Tennessee; and great grandchildren, Alexis, Haley, Parker, Levi, Eli, and Silas.
