Mrs. Emerson passed away Friday, August 29, 2008 at McNairy Healthcare in Selmer, Tennessee.
A life-long resident of Saulsbury, she was the daughter of the late C. A. and Beulah Cox Richards. Mrs. Emerson was a graduate of Grand Junction High School, Union University, where she received a lifetime teaching certificate, and University of Memphis with a Masters degree. On September 27, 1940, she married Robert Asa Emerson. Mr. Emerson, postmaster at Saulsbury for 20 years, died October 8, 1983. She was mayor of Saulsbury for 10 years.
Mrs. Emerson joined Saulsbury Baptist Church at age 13, taught Sunday school for 73 years and was church organist. For 40 years, she taught school and was principal of Middleton Elementary School for 10 years. Mrs. Emerson was a instructional facilitaor for the Hardeman County Board of Education. She held active memberships in Delta Kappa Gamma, APTA, Hardeman County School Board and Chi Omega.
She leaves her son and his wife, Rich and Norma Emerson of Saulsbury; grandson and his wife, Matt and Kim Emerson of Saulsbury; and three great grandchildren, Katelyn, Conner and Campbell Emerson.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two grandsons, Rob and Walter Emerson.
