Sandra (Sandy) Ann Chronowski KIlburn

September 8, 1945 — October 18, 2022

Sandra Ann Chronowski Kilburn was born September 8, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Geneva Michon Carlson and Joseph Chronowski. Sandy married the love of her life, Billy Kilburn, on July 6, 1967 in Detroit, Michigan. She was retired from the United States Postal Services. Sandy passed from this life on Monday, October 17, 2022 at 10:45 PM at Waynesboro Health and Rehabilitation Center, Waynesboro, TN. As a child, Sandy loved spending the summer at her family’s cottage at the North Channel off of Lake St Clair in Clay Township, Michigan where she fished with her aunt Sophie and uncle Wally. Fishing was something she loved to do all of her life especially on the Tennessee River at Clifton and at Laurel Hill Lake. Sandy really loved the water whether it was a lake, river or ocean. Her biggest joy of recent years was boating on the Charleston Harbor with her son and fishing from his dock in the creek. When she wasn’t carrying the mail and her grandchildren were younger, she loved to have them come bake brownies or watch movies with her. Her love of reading allowed for great fun in stories she would tell her grandchildren. Sandy was always an avid sports fan in the days of Larry Bird, she watched the Boston Celtics and the Miami dolphins. Over the years she became a Tennessee fan especially football on Saturdays you would find her cheering on the Vols and always wearing orange. Besides her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Kilburn; children, BJ Eaton, Kelly Kilburn, Kenny Kilburn and Kathy Kilburn; grandsons, Dustyn Kilburn and Daken Maples; brothers, Robert Chronowski and James Carlson and sister-in-law, Nan Chronowsk. She is survived by her son, James Kilburn (Charlotte) of Charleston, SC; daughter, Cindi Kilburn of Waynesboro, TN; son-in-law, Greg Eaton of Collinwood, TN; sisters, Beverly Chronowski Leo of Royal Oak, Michigan and Charlene Carlson of Sterling Heights, MI; sister-in-law, Karla Carlson of Warren, MI; grandchildren, Halle Kilburn of Charleston, SC, Camryn Eaton (Hannah), Kaylee Eaton and Kenneth Thrasher (Rickita) all of Collinwood, TN, Misty Daniels (Matt) of Waynesboro, TN, Shannon Thrasher of Appleton, WI, Jennifer Jones of Clinton Township, MI and Joseph Randall of New Baltimore, MI; 9 great-grandchildren; nieces, Hollie Leo Whelan (Jason), Victoria Jardine-Naranjo; nephews, James (Jimmy) Carlson and Zachary Carlson, Dale Kilburn, Terry Kilburn and Ronnie Kilburn and a special friend, Jean Maples. Sandy’s home was open to all and it wasn’t unusual to see any number of other relatives or friends of her children or grandchildren staying with her at any given time. Many people in Waynesboro call her “Mom” for this reason and she loved them like her own. All were welcome! In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you make a donation in honor of Sandy to one of the following in her honor, www.JDFR.org (Juvenile Diabetes Association) or BJ Love, which is a county wide project to ensure that all children in the county get a Valentine’s Day flower, at any Wayne County Bank Branch. Services will be Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 11 am at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel, Waynesboro, TN with Greg and Camryn Eaton officiating. Cremation will follow with burial in Shield’s Cemetery, Waynesboro, TN. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 19, 2022 from 5 pm to 8 pm and Thursday, October 20, 2022 from 10 am to service time at the funeral home.
