Samuel Boyce Powell

February 12, 1920 — September 19, 2005

Samuel Boyce Powell, 85, of Columbus, Indiana, formerly of Whiteville, died Monday, September 19, 2005 at Hospice South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.



He was a retired manager at Republic Steel and moved from Chicago to Columbus over 4 years ago. Mr. Powell was born February 12, 1920 in Whiteville, son of the late Samuel Benton Powell and Della Crews Powell. A graduate of Whiteville High Scool, he served in the U.S. Army during WWII and attended Grace Lutheran Church.



Graveside services were 11 AM Saturday, September 24, 2005 at Middleburg Cemetery with David Cooper officiating. Shackelford Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.



Survivors include one brother, Charles Powell and his wife Betty, of Three Rivers, Cal.; one sister, Thelma Camp of Jackson; several nieces & nephews, including, Judy Cooper of Jackson, Dr. Greg Phillips & his wife, Stephanie of Columbus, Ind., Eddie & Linda Powell, Paul and Maurice Powell, all of Chicago, Rockie Powell & his wife, Kristi of Exeter, Cal., Sandra & Rev. Jerry Anderson of Lanesville, Ind., Terry Tritt & his wife, Kathy, and Judy & Dr. Charles Cooper, all of Jackson, Tamara & Chris Kluczynski of Ventura, Cal. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Ruby Phillips and Lucille May and a brother, Dave Powell.
