Samuel Kenneth Chambers was born September 24, 1925 in Ramer, Tennessee the son of the late Samuel Rupert and Essie Jane Teague Chambers.
He was united in marriage to Nancy Hipshire on June 5, 1948.
Mr. Chambers attended Riverside Military Academy and Selmer High School, and played varsity basketball for both schools. He served 27 months in the United States Navy during World War II, much of that time having been spent with General Douglas MacArthur in the Pacific Theatre. After being discharged from the Navy, he attended the University of Tennessee, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He also attended the Murdock Cotton School in Memphis. After returning to Selmer, he joined his father in business at Selmer Cotton Gin Company and Chambers Insurance Agency.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Selmer, the American Legion, Pickwick Shrine, Masons, and was a Director for Bancorp South (formerly First National Bank) of Selmer. He also enjoyed playing drums for Wayne Jerrold's "Down Home Blues Band", and was a former Veterans Affairs Officer for McNairy County.
Mr. Chambers departed this life on April 18, 2007 in Jackson, Tennessee at the age of 81 Years, 6 Months, 25 Days. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy Hipshire Chambers of Selmer, Tennessee; a son, Samuel Charles Chambers and wife Tina of Selmer, Tennessee; a daughter, Nancy Jane Hutcherson and husband Tim of Selmer, Tennessee; two grandsons: John Kenneth Hutcherson and Albert Chambers Hutcherson, both of Selmer, Tennessee; and a granddaughter, Staci Black of Selmer, Tennessee.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Chambers was also preceded in death by a grandson, Samuel Robert Chambers.
