Mrs. Watson passed away Saturday night at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
A native and life-long resident of Hardeman County, she was the daughter of the late Roy Clifton and Sally Gertrude Farris Long. She was a 1945 graduate of Bolivar Central High School and in 1947 was united in marriage to Leonard Carl Watson, Sr. They were married 31 years before his passing on June 4, 1978.
Mrs. Watson was a bookkeeper and accountant in the ASCS office, in the Hardeman County Trustee's Office (working for Mr. Bruce Hanna) and at Western Mental Health Institute. She also had worked for Dr. McAnulty, not only in accounting, but also helped with nursing duties, as she was called upon to do.
A long time member of the Parrans Chapel Baptist Church, she enjoyed teaching the children in Sunday School. In her spare time, Mrs. Sally Ruth was an avid reader, sometimes reading several books a week, and enjoyed playing bridge with several generations of Bolivar's ladies. She began playing as a young girl and continued throughout her life, even teaching the game to her grandchildren.
She leaves two sons, Carl (Sandy) Watson and Roy Watson, both of Bolivar; a sister, Mary Frances Eastham of Bolivar; four grandchildren, Susanne (Wesley) Freeman, Margaret Ruth Watson, Pete Watson and Sally Watson; and three great-grandchildren, Houston and Harrison Freeman, and Aiden Boyd.
Memorials may be sent to the Bolivar/Hardeman County Library, 213 North Washington Street. Bolivar, Tennessee 38008.
