S. W. Alexander

S. W. (Graderman) Alexander



was born in Decatur County, Tennessee on November 21, 1922 the son of the late Perry Elzie and Rita Lucille Sparks Alexander.



Mr. Alexander had served in the United States Army training with the Marines during W.W.II. He had worked for C & W Construction Company in Jackson, Tennessee and for the Hardin County Highway Department. Mr. Alexander was a member of the Saltillo Church of Christ and the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a supporter of Freed Hardeman University and the Tennessee Boys Town. He loved to fish, garden, hunt, and taking care of people. He helped build Pickwick Bridge and was known as "Graderman".



Mr. Alexander departed this life on Monday, August 25, 2008 at the age of 85 years, 9 months, 4 days.



Mr. Alexander is survived by a son: Freddie Alexander of Saltillo, Tennessee; a daughter: Sandra Kay Alexander of Saltillo, Tennessee; 3 sisters: Jean Brewer of Marion, Indiana, Sue Kimbrell of Carothersville, Missouri, and Helen Kennedy of Memphis, Tennessee; a brother: Jimmy Alexander of Carothersville, Missouri; 2 grandchildren: Tracey Alexander and Brian Alexander; 2 great-grandchildren: Emilee Kay Delassie and Presley Hana Alexander.



In addition to his parents, Mr. Alexander was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Odessa Marie Thompson Alexander, who preceded him in death in 1986 and his 2nd wife, Mary Vinson Alexander who preceded him in death in 1996; an infant son; 4 sisters: Linda Carolyn Phelps, Dorothy Alene Thompson, Velma Mae Alexander, and Murriel Grooms; 2 brothers: Arlie C. Alexander and Garmon Ray Alexander.
