Ruth Harris Williams

Ruth Harris Williams departed this life on January 18, 2013 in Selmer, TN at the age of 97 years, 9 months, and 5 days. She was born on April 13, 1915 to Harrison McKenley Eliff and Myrtle Jane Davis Eliff. She was united in marriage to Walter W. Harris in 1938. Mr. Harris preceded her in death in April of 1976.
Mrs. Williams was a seamstress having worked for Salant and Salant Garment Company. She did alterations for many businesses sewing for both the public and her family. Her pride and joy was being "Grandma" at Savannah Head Start, which she truly loved. During her lifetime she lived in the Old Union and Rocky Knob communities and at Oakhaven Village in Adamsville.
Mrs. Williams was a member of Hardin Graveyard Solitude Free Will Baptist Church. She also attended Old Union Church and Rocky Knob Church. She loved bluegrass music, quilting with friends, gardening, and sharing her home grown vegetables with others. Our loving mother had to quit school when she was in the eighth grade to help take care of her brothers and sisters. She self taught herself to read and loved taking care of others having cared for her mother, brother, and mother-in-law when her dad passed away. In 1967 her husband Walter became a paraplegic for nine years. She never complained but lovingly took care of him and her five children. Her hobbies were her flowers, animals, feeding the birds, traveling, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by four children, Janice Crans of Adamsville, Loretta Plunk of Finger, Larry Harris of Cape Canaveral, FL, and Gerry Harris of Adamsville. A daughter, Frances Fields, preceded her in death on October 26, 2011. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Tina Whitson, Gina Bates, Kim Morgan, Rick Plunk, Marty Plunk, Chris Harris, Reggie Harris, Tonya Garrison, Brooks Harris, Tracy Broocks, and John Robert Fields; 21 great grandchildren, Will Cross II, Kenny Cross, Luke Whitson, Anna Whitson, Brooks Morgan, Blake Morgan, Greg Plunk, Brittany Plunk, Danielle Plunk, Alyssa Plunk, Kassy Plunk, Kory Harris, Courtney Harris, Hayden Harris, Ashley Garrison, Kaitlyn Garrison, Ethan Garrison, Laura Grace Broocks, Mary Kate Broocks, Rainy Leight Broocks, Blake Harris; 3 great great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Elbert Eliff, Jessie (Shorty) Eliff, Willie Erie Robertson, Leonard Eliff, Mildred Eliff, Myrtle Lee Eliff, Lurie Inether Eliff, Susie Ineze Eliff, Geraldine Eliff, Entford Eliff, and Johnnie McKinley Eliff.
