Ruth Catherine Stevens, 82, of Bolivar, died Sunday, December 24, 2006 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Born October 1, 1924 in Jackson to the late Riley F. and Dessie Idell Frye Pyles, she lived her early years in Jackson before moving to Bolivar in the 9th grade. She graduated from Bolivar Central High School in 1943 and in May of that year married Kenneth Stevens, who survives. Mrs. Stevens was a member of Bolivar 1st Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School Secretary for over 40 years. She was employed for 22 1/2 years in ASC office in Bolivar. A woman who loved her family very much and lived her life for them, she was active with Loaves & Fishes in Bolivar, a volunteer at Pine Meadows Nursing Home and a director of the Union Cemetery for many years. She loved traveling, needlepoint and collecting porcelain figurines.
In addition to her husband, she leaves two daughters, Patricia Stevens Ayers and her husband, Ricky of Bolivar and Rebecca Stevens Ward and her husband, Randy of Dyersburg; a sister, Lillian Teague of Bolivar; three brothers, Bill Pyles and his wife, Sue of Medon, Sherrell Pyles and his wife, Carole of San Antonio, TX and Charles A. Pyles and his wife, Sally of South Carolina; two grandchildren, Dena Denton of Saulsbury and Edie Ward Butler of Jackson and four great grandchildren, Thomas McClung Fawcett, Maxwell Stevens Fawcett, Kirsten Siler and Ali Elizabeth Butler.
