Ruth Elizabeth Baker Sipes, 87, of Bolivar, died Saturday, March 4, 2006 at Bolivar General Hospital.
A homemaker, she had also worked for a time at Western Mental Health Institute and as a cook on a river boat. Mrs. Sipes was born February 25, 1919 in Hardeman County, daughter of the late Joe Marley Baker and Daisy Marie McDaniel Baker. She was a former member of Eastern Star and a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church.
Services were 12:30 PM Monday, March 6, 2006 at Shackelford Funeral Directors Bolivar chapel with Bro. Bill Whitman and David Cooper officiating. Burial was in Wyatt Cemetery near Hornsby with her grandsons serving as casket bearers.
Survivors include four daughters, Annie Marie Sipes Crawford of Hornsby, Bertha Elizabeth Sipes Vaughan, Nancy Ruth Sipes Dillard and Margaret Gail Howell, all of Bolivar; one son, David Clinton Sipes of Bolivar; two sisters, Mary Lee DeBlieux of Houma, LA and Cora Jane Moore of Hot Springs, AR; two brothers, Charles “JoJo†Baker and Wilbur C. Baker, both of Bolivar; 11 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 6 step-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Annie Grace Jernigan and two brothers, James Allen Baker and Joseph Daniel Baker.
