Ruth Elizabeth Kirksey Seymour Morrison, 91, of Staunton, Virginia, formerly of Whiteville, died Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at Birch Gardens Assisted Living Facility in Staunton.
She was born in Perryville, TN on October 23, 1914, the only daughter of Jennie Jane and Oliver Columbus Kirksey. Attending Mitchell College in Statesville, NC, Ruth later became a state board-certified histological technician at Methodist Hospital in Memphis, TN. A member of Berclair Baptist Church of Memphis, TN, she was an avid reader and a gifted seamstress. She also loved to do needle point, and was valedictorian of her high school class in Whiteville, TN.
Graveside services and burial were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at Melrose Cemetery in Whiteville, TN, with Rev. Rick Wheeler officiating. A memorial service followed on Saturday, May 20, 2006 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Waynesboro, VA. with Rev. David Washburn officiating. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar were in charge of arrangements.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Harry Powell Seymour and William McHenry Morrison; her two brothers, Prince Harold, and Howard Graden Kirksey. She was the last surviving member of her family. She leaves behind her daughter, Harriet Seymour Aylor, and her husband, Gordon Aylor of Waynesboro, VA. She also leaves three granddaughters, Janet Aylor Roach and her husband Michael of Richmond, VA, Suzanne Aylor Dadzie and her husband William of Washington, DC and Kamron Aylor Satterwhite and her husband Steve of Richmond. She also leaves a nephew, Howard Graden Kirksey II of Massachusetts, and seven grandchildren, Virginia and Jim Roach, Charlotte, Liam, Estelle and Emily Dadzie, and Mason Satterwhite.
