Ruby Eugenia Dodd

A native of Alcorn County, Mississippi, Mrs. Dodd was a graduate of Corinth High School. Before her marriage to Henry Dodd on October 23, 1946, she was secretary-bookkeeper for Bell Coal and Transfer Co. in Corinth. After her marriage, she was a homemaker and served many years in church, school, community, and civic activities. She was an active member of the Savannah Church of Christ. Both she and her husband were avid supporters of Christian education, especially Freed-Hardeman University.



For fifty-seven years, prior to her husband’s death, she had lived at the family home in Acton, Tennessee. Prior to his death, they had worshipped at both the Acton congregation and the Foote Street congregation. After his death, she moved to Adamsville to be near her daughter.



Mrs. Dodd was a caregiver to family and friends wherever she was needed and was affectionately known as “Mrs. Ruby.”



Survivors are as follows: two children and their spouses: Rosalind and Mark Massey, Adamsville, Tennessee, Dr. John and Marilyn Dodd, Corinth, Mississippi; six grandsons: Seth Massey and his wife Pharrah, Cottontown, Tennessee; John Massey and his wife Meghan, Savannah, Tennessee; John David Dodd, Jr. of Corinth; Nick Dodd and Kimberly his wife, St. Louis, Missouri; Henry Hilton Dodd, Memphis, Tennessee; and William Dodd, Corinth; one great grandson: Matthew Henry Massey, Cottontown; two nephews: Max Lancaster, Princeton, New Jersey; Gary Lancaster Atlanta, Georgia; and one niece, Billie Tumblin, Knoxville, Tennessee.



Speakers at the funeral will be Dr. Billy Smith, FHU Bible Department Chairman and Malcom George, minister. Congregational singing will be led by David Baker.



Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Interment will be at Liberty Cemetery near Acton with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge. Memorials may be sent to Rogers, Dodd, Conger Scholarship Fund, Freed-Hardeman University; or to Pinevale Children’s Home.
