He was born and reared in McNairy County, near Milledgeville, the son of the late Robert Sullivan and Effie Kelly Davis. He attended schools in McNairy County. He farmed as a young man and in 1946 entered the U.S. Army WWII and served in Tokyo, Japan. He was married to Jimmie Smith in 1951 and they made their home in the Enville area. Mr. Davis farmed and worked at Salant & Salant Mfg. and other factories in the area. He served as a commissioner on the Chester County Court for 34 years, representing the First District. He was a member of the Cabo Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Jimmie Smith Davis of Enville; two son, Rickie Davis and Tommy Davis and wife Sherry; a daughter, Linda Nelson and husband Mike of all of Henderson; four grandchildren, David Nelson, Amber Nelson, Zachary Mullins and Joshua Davis and two great grandchildren; Kalab Needham and Logan Nelson; a brother, Roy Davis of Memphis and two sisters, Ruby Lee Snider of Tupelo, MS and Ruth Rainey of Enville.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert E. Davis.
