Roy Starnes
was born in Perry County, Tennessee on March 29, 1918 the son of the late John Wesley Starnes and the late Addie Mae Campbell Starnes Staggs.
On August 2, 1941 he was united in marriage to the former Frances Ray, who survives. During his life, Mr. Starnes had lived in Clifton, Tennessee as well as Savannah, Tennessee. He worked for over thirty years at both Savannah Ice Company and Brown Shoe Company. Mr. Starnes was involved with the Savannah Little League and was also a member and local vice-president of the United Food Commercial Workers union.
He departed this life on May 12, 2006 at the Hardin County Nursing Home in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 13 days.
Mr. Starnes is survived by his wife, France Starnes of Savannah;
a son, Robert N. Starnes of Nashville, Tennessee; a daughter, Teresa J. Starnes of Germantown, Tennessee; 2 grandchildren, Inglish Starnes-Maffitt and Lucia Charette Starnes; a special niece, Glenda Hickman of Savannah, who was considered to be a “daughter in His loveâ€; and a sister, Alta Beatty of Bath Springs, Tennessee.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert A. Starnes, a sister, Clara Harville, a half-brother, Marvin Starnes and 2 half-sisters: Maude Malone and Beulah Hill.
