Mr. Roy M. Rainey, 76, Waycross, GA, died early Saturday morning at Satilla Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. Born in Double Springs, AL to the late Henry and Emma Hatley Rainey, he had made his home in Waycross since 1968. He worked
for the CSX Railroad before retirement. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, the Waycross Lions Club, American Legion and the DVA. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Rainey is survived by his wife, Ival Holt Rainey of Waycross, a son, Roy Michael
Rainey, Jr, and his wife, Mitzie, of St. Mary’s, GA, a daughter, Shelia Rainey Murphy and her husband, Gerald, of Hodgenville, KY, his grandchildren, Gerald Wayne Murphy and his wife, Ebru, of Waycross, GA, Tim Murphy of Edison, NJ, Melissa Murphy of Hodgenville, KY, Shelby and Roy Michael Rainey, III of St. Mary’s, GA, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Services will be Thursday, April 27, 2006 at 1:00 pm at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel in Collinwood, TN with Gerald Murphy, Sr. and Nolan Burns officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Lutts, TN with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County in charge of the arrangements. Pallbearers will be Danny Balentine, Tony Balentine, Ellis Hale, Gene Hale, Fred Bevis, and David West.
