He was born and reared Finger in McNairy County, the son of the late John Hardy and Minta Pauline Tedford Leath. He attended school at Bethel. He farmed as a young man and entered the U.S. Navy in 1945 and served aboard a fire boat and was stationed in Honolulu. He was married to Eunice Clark in 1947. They made their home in South Bend, IN until 1968 when they moved to Finger. Mr. Leath was a truck driver and drove for Roadway while in Indiana and after they moved to Finger he drove for Consolidated Aluminum and then J & N Trucking of Greenwood, MS. He retired from trucking in 1989, after retirement he drove some for Harold Montgomery. He was a member of the Henderson Elks, The VFW Post # 1848 in Jackson and the Teamster Union Local # 364 in Indiana.
He is survived by his wife Eunice Mae Clark Leath; two sons, Roy Howard Leath and wife Debbie of Decatur, MI and David Leath and wife Anna of Henderson; a daughter, Patty Buswell and husband Todd of Henderson; three brothers, Richard Leath and Charles Leath both of Finger and Billy Leath of Cookeville; three sisters, Ann Day of Walker, LA, Jennie Courtney of Baton Rouge, LA and Joyce Kammer of San Diego, CA;
Six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Leath in 1986 and two sisters, Johnnie Glover Longmire and Mary Kenneth Braly.
